The Best Book I Read This Year

I’m amazed at how much reading I got done this year, to be honest not because of a lack of time but because of how busy this year was. Anyhoo, the truth is it’s hard to pick but I did enjoy reading a book on #leadership and #management called #therulesofmanagement. ⠀

Fam, what was the best book you read this year? ⠀

The Best Movie I Saw In Theatres This Year

Yo! With this whole #covid19 drama, I legit didn’t get to see any movie in the cinema this year like play, like play. However, I did watch A LOT of movies, in the safety of my home this year. ⠀

My favourite out of all the movies I saw were #insideout by #pixarstudios and the movie #hustlers so yeah, that’s me. ⠀

Fam, what’s the best movie you saw in theatres this year? ⠀

The Most Valuable Lesson You’ve Learned This Year

The one thing that definitely kept reinforcing itself to me over and over again was this – things, people and situations are never as they seem. You’ve got to be on high alert and be discerning at all times so you can spot the fakes and the almost real. ⠀

Also with the whole #covid19 saga, it was definitely a reminder that life is short and we should not take any single day for granted because eyan le ku any effing time mhen. (Someone can die any effing time mhen)⠀

So live your best life and don’t let anybody tell you nonsense and be appreciative of your life every single day!⠀

Fam, what’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned this year? ⠀

What I’m Thankful For This Year

As crazy as it sounds, I’m actually thankful for #covid19 and all the shenanigans that came with it, including the lockdown. The #lockdown period was the perfect opportunity to rest, rejuvenate, refresh, learn a new skill and most importantly spend a lot of quality time with #God, so yeah. ⠀

I’m thankful that this year also gave me the opportunity to really see and truly realise what my priorities are in life and make the necessary adjustments. ⠀

I’m also thankful for the opportunity to act in one of the hit #comedy shows in #Nigeria aka #myflatmates. That was pretty awesome and I look forward to bigger roles in the future. #2021, let’s get it! ⠀

Fam, what are you thankful for this year? ⠀

My Three Celebrity Crushes

I genuinely don’t have any at the moment but I’ll list 3 I used to have the biggest crush on when I was younger. 😁⠀ ⠀

1. Orlando Bloom – @orlandobloom especially when he played Will Turner in #Piratesofthecaribbean #dying (I was a #teenager then so excuse you and your judgement lol)⠀

2. Blair Underwood – @blairunderwood_official

3. Ramsey Nouah – @ramseynouah ⠀

Remember those #Tennislessons I mentioned in my Day 2 post of this writing challenge? The one where I started learning how to drive in secret? I bumped into Ramsey at #Ikoyiclub as I was heading in one day and he was heading out. ⠀

I asked him for an autograph in excitement and he graciously obliged. I literally ran to the car to get a book for him to sign while he waited. (I was also a teenager then, so excuse you and your judgement of me o! 😂😂😂😂!) ⠀

Guys! Who are your celebrity crushes o? Let us know! No judgement from me. Hehehehe. ⠀
⠀ ⠀

What I Miss Most About My Hometown

The tube, the red buses, the big clock, high street shopping, #fish and #chips#thorntons #icecream, the centralised location and a host of other things. ⠀

Can you guess which city in the World I’m referring to? 😎⠀

If you didn’t get it by the first thing, then you should have gotten it by the second thing on the list. Hehehe. ⠀

Childhood Defining Moments

The day one of my aunties got robbed shortly after she left our house. She rushed back in, nervous, shaking and cowering with fear with none of the things she had left our house with. Of course, my mom and I rushed over to her and comforted her and she told us how the robbers had pulled a gun on her (somewhere around #falomobridge) and told her to quietly surrender everything she had on her or risk her life. ⠀

Now because I was still very young so I started crying and was very upset at the thought of losing her; so much so that the adults started to comfort me. This was a defining moment in my childhood because it was my first brush with the possibility and finality of and suddenness and abruptness of #death. 😩⠀

The other defining moment for me that day was the callousness and coldness of human nature which becomes more evident when others are suffering or facing misfortune. ⠀

Our then #maid/house help was in the #kitchen washing plates, she was the one who had opened the door to my panic-stricken aunt and yet she showed no concern whatsoever and went back to the kitchen to continue her chores. 🙄😒🤷⠀

What got all of us upset was her indifference and the fact that we were having this conversation in the corridor leading to the kitchen, so she could hear everything. ⠀
She offered no sympathies or showed no concern even though my aunt had come back to our house so abruptly 15 minutes after she had left with all her stuff missing except the clothes she was wearing. Plus she had almost died! 😤⠀

I can even understand the indifference to the missing things, after all, they are just things right? But she had a real-life gun pulled on her! What if they had shot her? And yet a fellow human being was acting so unconcerned. Smh. 🤦⠀

At such a young age, I was already learning about the realities of life, it wasn’t pleasant but I’m the wiser for it now. ⠀

Qualities I Value In A Romantic Partner

That’s easy, what does #God have to say about love and romance in the Bible? Anything He says are the qualities I’m going to value in my romantic partner. That’s right I’m speaking prophetically into my destiny. 😁⠀

1st Corinthians 13 verse 4 – 7 AMPC Version of the Bible;⠀

4 – Love endures long and is patient and kind, love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily. ⠀

So based on what verse 4 said, my husband has to embody the qualities of patience and kindness, he should not be the envious nor unnecessarily jealous type, he should not be boastful or vain and be carrying himself haughtily about the place as if he’s the one who created the heavens and the earth. 🙄⠀

5 – It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it (it pays no attention to a suffered wrong). ⠀

6 – It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail. ⠀

7 – Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances and it endures everything (without weakening). ⠀

Yup, all the qualities described in verse 5, 6 and 7 I would most certainly value in my romantic partner/husband. ⠀

The MSG Version; ⠀
Love never gives up, love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have. Love doesn’t strut, doesn’t have a swelled head, doesn’t force itself on others, isn’t always “me first,” doesn’t fly off the handle, doesn’t keep score of the sins of others, doesn’t revel when others grovel, takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, puts up with anything, trusts God always, always looks for the best, never looks back but keeps going to the end. ⠀

#Dearfuturehusband I have no doubt you embody these qualities and more because God made you for me and I for you. ❤️⠀

My Favourite Books

On Friday, I talked about how my favourite fictional character is #HarryPotter so it goes without saying that I’m a HUGE fan of all the books by #jkrowling. ⠀

I read so much, it’s really hard to now come out and name others apart from the Harry Potter books. ⠀

Of course, my favourite Book of all time is the #Bible. I mean, what’s not to love? It has everything! Sound teachings and doctrines, Drama (Book of #Esther anyone?) Comedy, Betrayal, Romance, Art, Literature, Engineering (there’s a part that talks about soundings being taken. If you know, you know), Epic real life stories (I mean the parting of the Red Sea just blows my mind!). ⠀

The Bible has Proverbs, love songs and poetry (Songs of Solomon and Ecclesiastes). It has quite a bit of human anger and rage expressed in such dramatic and poetic fashion (Psalms anyone?). ⠀

So there you have it guys, which reminds me…what are YOUR favourite books?⠀

Dear Past Me

Dear Past Fisayo, ⠀

I trust this meets you well and in good health. ⠀

First things first, stop being such a worrier and calm down; everything is literally working out for your good. Yes really! The good, the bad, the ugly, the disappointments, the twists, the turns, the betrayals, the confusion, the unexpected, every single thing is working out. ⠀

The pain, the sleepless nights, the persecution, the trials, the mistakes, the failures, the successes, the highs and the lows! ⠀

If only you could see what I see and experience what I experience, it’s all so beautiful, it’s all so glorious, it’s so much more, exceedingly, abundantly more than you could ever have thought, asked or imagined! ⠀

It may sound too good to be true due to your current circumstances, I understand but I do want you to do us a favour, I need you to hang on to your #faith like your life depends on it because it does. ⠀

You see friends will come and go; good and bad circumstances will pass and everything will be just fine. ⠀

Yes, you know that annoying expression to us, “This too shall pass.” It’s true! Those annoying people who say it are on to something and guess what, in the future you start saying it too! Ah yes, the passing of time and going through life events will change you in ways you never thought possible. ⠀

Don’t get me wrong, the #future is not perfect (we still live on #earth after all) but it is so much better than the #past. All you need to do is just keep trusting and believing in #God and doing all He asks you to do and you will be fine. ⠀

Man may not have your back but you’ve got the Big Daddy Himself in #Heaven on your side and that’s all you truly need mami! ⠀
See you soon! ⠀

Love, ⠀
Future Fisayo. ⠀
